Mood Scent 4 : Into The Woods

Mood Scent 4, Perfume Reviews

Hello fragrance people and welcome to the final instalment of Mood Scent 4 with my perfume friends Samantha, Esperanza and Portia. We’ve been writing Mood Scent 4 for a few years now and I have absolutely loved our monthly fragrance round up and the chance to discover new scents to try.

We have decided to finish this scent project and each of us will have our own reasons but for me I am running out of scents to write about and I don’t purchase or research them in the frenzied way I once used to when in the early addiction phase. My fragrance inspiration has pretty much diminished over the years, to the point where I want my creative energies to move onto something new that may include my recent NFT hobby which delivers a very similar buzz to what I once had with fragrance. Also it’s much easier and less time consuming to just do an Instagram post, Story, Reel or Tok Tok these days and that has been the case for years now.

Samantha is now a published author in the fragrance world so a huge congratulations to her. The book with her name on it is called ‘The Perfume Companion. The Definitive Guide To Choosing Your Next Scent’, that is co-authored with Sarah McCartney of 4160 Tuesday’s fame. I will be reading it very soon and so should you.

So let’s get to the fragrances!

Pink Wood : April Aromatics : Tanja Bochnig : 2017

OK so as this is the last piece I don’t feel so bad about writing about it again. If you’ve read a few of the Mood Scent 4 pieces over time you will know that I love the April Aromatics collection of fragrances. There are many stand out scents in the range but Pink Wood is definitely one of my special friends and now I will quote myself : Pink Wood “feels like an excellent representation of the collection too. It has all of the good parts of the other perfumes in the collection represented here. The beautiful and otherworldly sense of woods that Tanja Bochnig conquers and the seductive florals.

Red berries and incredibly dark roses are layered here like a beautiful magenta whipped cream. Add in oud, sandalwood and the heavenly labdanum and Pink Wood becomes the most delectable fragrance. It feels like taking a bite of something forbidden that you didn’t realise would taste so divine. There’s a wonderful sense of shade in this fragrance, flickers of light and dark as the perfume wears on. Imagine beautiful dark red petals strewn around American Beauty style.”

Bois Sikar : Atelier Des Ors : Marie Salamagne : 2018

This is the superpower woods fragrance when you need to shine some light in the darkness. You might be dreaming but imagine you’re in the forest with a cigar and a whisky in the dark depths of the night sheltering from the cold. This is the fragrance that will embolden you and take the chill away. Now to quote myself  “Bois Sikar is a potent cigar and whisky perfume with a strong layer of guaic wood and smoky Javanese vétiver. The fragrance summons the cigar club furnished with leather couches and a smoky atmosphere. This perfume even has a hint of vanilla in the dry down so while it is all action at the beginning with a supercharge, it doesn’t stay like this forever. Bois Sikar summons the best parts of single malt whiskey from the Isle of Islay and the strongest cigar you can lay your hands on.” And I will just add that this fragrance is definitely not for the faint of heart, it’s unreservedly a strong fragrance up front but it does settle down after an hour or so.

Dryad : Papillon Artisan Perfumes : Liz Moores : 2017

Dryad may not be woods heavy on the fragrance materials, however it is a fragrance that I associate with the oak moss of the forest. It’s a green themed fragrance but with warmth and sensuality. With Dryad you can sense the forest but the mood is elegant yet otherworldly. Imagine magical moonlight with flickers of herbs and florals that lighten the mood. Papillon’s perfumes have emotion and feeling imbued within them and you can really feel the creativity and work that has gone into each and every one of them.

Fille en Aiguilles : Serge Lutens : Christopher Sheldrake : 2009

With this classic Serge Lutens scent you are immediately transported to the depths of a dense pine forest, where you can only just glimpse the sky. Fille en Aiguilles is really so evocative and with the addition of the Lutens stewed fruit secret sauce, and a touch of incense, this is a great wintery warm up fragrance.

So that’s a wrap for Mood Scent 4. We hope you have enjoyed your time with us, whether you are a new visitor or an old timer, we thank you all for popping by. Please make sure to read my fellow Mood Scent 4 group writers : Portia at A Bottled Rose, Samantha on I Scent You A Day and Esperanza on L’Esperessence. It’s always sad to say goodbye and I may even miss the Sunday writing sessions as well. I will definitely miss the team but I’m sure that I will see them again, maybe at Esxence next year. Love to all 💙💙💙

      • Megan! I can’t wait to get back to the continent and see you all. Fingers crossed for sooner rather than later.
You give me too much credit, it was a joint adventure. Working in a crew was one of my perfumed highlights. So much so that there is something new on the horizon. SHHHH!
