Another episode of Mood Scent 4 is here and this time around we’re featuring Superpower fragrances. My scented partners are Portia who is now with A Bottled Rose, L’Esperessence and I Scent You A Day. We are your selectors for perfumes for various occasions. 

Superpower fragrances are those that lend an edge and make you feel like you are in the flow. The feeling when everything is going your way. A fragrance that can give you the power to feel strong, be confident, stand tall, run a marathon or summon increased brainpower. The choices are endless here. I’m sure my colleagues have all interpreted this in a slightly different way but usually when I need a superpower it’s because I need to channel something that is lacking on the day.

in these times of confinement I think you also need anything to get you through the day. A glass of wine, an aperol spritz or a gin and tonic can also give me superpowers – for a short time anyway. Here in France some restrictions ease today and we will be able to drive 100 kms without an attestation. We will also be able to walk more than 1 km from our home so that in itself is quite exciting. In terms of work we can go back to the office although if you can work from home it is highly recommended you keep doing this. Shops can open however restaurants, cafés and bars remain closed. You can actually buy take away coffee from some of the bakeries already and to be honest I need my caffeine like it’s a superpower drug.

A spritz of fragrance can also do the trick to usher in superpowers. So without further ado let’s go to my selection of superpower fragrances.

7 Chakra Oil Set : April Aromatics : Tanja Bochnig

If you need different superpowers every day of the week then I highly reommend these Chakra Oils from April Aromatics, Chakra is a sanskrit word and means wheel or disc. There are seven chakras that run along the spine, containing energy. The aim of the oils is to balance these energies to align harmony and flow in the body, mind and spirit. There is an oil for each chakra and as there are seven you could even choose to wear a different one each day of the week.

My favorite is the heart chakra oil that correlates to compassion and love. It is a rosy, natural, beautiful fragrance that always brings a smile and makes me start the day in a good space. if you like natural oils I am sure you will find one in this collection that will give you a boost to your inner calm superpowers.

Patchouli 1973 : Chabaud : 2019

This is a perfume that I’ve only recently tried and it’s a lovely patchouli and amber fragrance with a sunny, light signature. Patchouli 1973 is not too light and not too heavy so it manages to straddle that middle line where you can successfully wear it on a regular basis. For me this has stealthy superpowers where a gentle mood uplift is required. This patchouli fragrance is not going to scare your friends away. One of my favorite patchouli perfumes is Borneo 1834 by Serge Lutens however as much as I love this perfume it does tend to put my friends off. It’s so pungently potent and has a very earthy, full grunge patchouli so is an acquired taste.

Patchouli 1973 however is a light, ray of ambered sunshine with a rambling, freedom vibe. Imagine you’re on a Vespa having an adventure in the old villages in France on a hot summer’s day. A special yet everyday scent that keeps your momentum superpower ticking along.

Bois Sikar : Atelier Des Ors : Marie Samamagne : 2018

Sometimes you want to feel superpower strength in that Thor or Hulk way. You know those times when you need to summon all of your strength and resilience to get through a difficult task, day or period. Bois Sikar is a potent cigar and whisky perfume with a strong layer of guaic wood and smoky Javanese vétiver. The fragrance summons the cigar club furnished with leather couches and a smoky atmosphere. This perfume even has a hint of vanilla in the dry down so while it is all action at the beginning with a supercharge, it doesn’t stay like this forever. Bois Sikar summons the best parts of single malt whiskey from the Isle of Islay and the strongest cigar you can lay your hands on.

Paris -Venise : Chanel : Olivier Polge : 2018

This is my superpower scent for clarity and mindfulness. Without a doubt this scent in the Les Eaux  collection is classic Chanel and and comes in an Eau de Toilette concentration. Paris-Venise brings back happy holiday memories of a fleeting visit to Venice where I purchased this perfume. The gorgeous iris and powdery effect seems to focus me with that crystal clear vision that we all need to tune into from time to time.
