Happy New Year everyone. I hope you had a great NYE doing something a little out of the ordinary, or even if you didn’t, hopefully there was something slightly special about it.
I find it cathartic to see in the New Year, as if you can wash away some of the dirt that has accumulated and start afresh. I’m quite excited to now be in the rip roaring 20’s as well, although I’m not sure if that’s the best reference to use. The flapper era always seemed so glamorous, however we all know that the post war era was decidedly grim for most. I’m sure this decade will find its own vibe though in due course.
Are you starting out with a snooze or a bang? This was the first NYE in a long time when I didn’t have a late night, so actually I feel a lot better than normal. I think that’s a good thing – a hangover can be such a drag these days. They are just so much worse than they used to be. There’s no let up at all.
How about resolutions? Did you make any? This year I decided to make determinations that I will endeavour to materialise, but at the same time I’m not going to beat myself up if they don’t all happen or work out exactly as anticipated.
I have a ritual where I wear Anubis by Papillon in the evening on NYE. It’s a sexy, mysterious, slightly smoky scent heaving with jasmine with a leathered sneer, but in a good way. Anubis is mysterious and fit for an Egyptian Queen passing through the gates of the underworld. For the day I drenched myself in Gold by Puredistance and will be reporting back on this perfume very soon. What fragrance did you see in the NY with?
Anyway let’s start the year with a bang with two tracks from 2019 that I have really loved. They’re both uplifting in their own way. Lizzo is massively popular and I can see why. She reminds me of a sassy Prince, although of course she’s one of a kind.
If you watched the TV series Big Little Lies then you will know Michael Kiwanuka‘s song Cold Little Heart as the theme tune. This track is from this year’s album KIWANUKA and is called You Ain’t The Problem. There is a soulfulness to his voice and he has some exquisite songs that I wholeheartedly recommend with a 70’s vibe, although it doesn’t feel uber retro either.
Here’s to 2020 and thank you so much to the people that still drop by and read this blog in the age of Insta and YouTube.

Happy New Year Megan! Best wishes for 2020. My fragrance for seeing in the new decade was A Lab on Fire’s …and the world is yours. Gorgeous in the repressed from recent heatwave conditions…

Happy New Year! My husband and I always enjoy your posts because we get perfume (me) and the songs and videos (both of us!). Love the Juice! I don’t watch the influencer/videos on perfume. I am an English teacher, and the videos often are clumsy, long, pointless watching someone sniff at a bottle. I’d much rather read my favorite bloggers.

Happy New Year to you! I hope you had a lovely start to the year and glad that you like the music too. I think there’s an audience for blogs but it’s just a lot smaller than for YouTube videos these days. Thanks for reading. I really, truly appreciate it. It was actually difficult to choose the music as there were so many songs I wanted to put on the page! 💙
