I hope you have had a great few days with family and friends over the Christmas holiday period and that you’ve over indulged in all the right ways. I’m just happy to have some time with my boys when I can get them away from their anime / YouTube / gaming obsession. However I know for many of us we are a long way from family and it’s not always the easiest time of year.
So I thought I’d pop something uplifting here on the blog. I was a huge fan of the TV series The Affair. It started off with a bang with such great insight into the He Said, She Said narrative. Admittedly the series went off the rails over time and with main characters Alison (the amazing Ruth Wilson) and Cole (Joshua Jackson) departing some serious wind went out of the sails.
Saying that the series after all was really about couple Noah (Dominic West) and Helen (Maura Tierney) who are fantastic throughout and struggled to maintain a civil relationship at times due to Noah’s marriage ending affair. The finale was full of redemption for the series and characters alike. It was one of the best tying up of a series full of life, love and desperation that I’ve seen. The ending was upbeat and I don’t want to provide spoilers in case you will watch it at some point but the last scene with Noah Solloway (Dominic West) was quite frankly a bit of an unexpected tear jerker.
Here’s the flash mob dance scene in the finale featuring The Whole of the Moon, by the Waterboys, a song I’ve always loved and now perhaps feel a kinship with even more keenly. The song is reprised in the final scene with Fiona Apple taking the reins which was a nice touch as she sings the theme song.
Merry Xmas everyone. 🎄✨🎄
