Massive Attack were huge in the 90’s and I have many fond memories of listening to Blue Lines, then Protection and after that Mezzanine with the incredible Teardrop that played on repeat over and over much to the annoyance of my boyfriend at the time. Massive Attack went a little dark on it after that for me, but I’m still interested in what they do. Mazzy Star and the delicious vocals of Hope Sandoval was another favourite in this period so I was pretty happy to see them coming together again to make another single. They collaborated on Paradise Circus back in 2010, that you may recognise as the fabulous theme song from the TV series Luther and now here they are again with The Spoils. It’s not too pot head dark and twisted, The Spoils is slow, languid and it’s a treat to hear those vocals again.
