Beck has a new single out that lies mid way between his slow, more melancholic / gloomy tunes and his upbeat funky numbers.  It’s called Wow and it’s groovy in a laid back way.

One thing about Beck that you may not know is he is an amazing performer. If you ever get a chance to see him, believe me you will be impressed. I saw him way back in Auckland in 1998 and to be honest I knew Odelay but not much else but after that I made sure to pay more attention.

My favourite Beck albums are Sea Change (melancholic with a huge debt to Serge Gainsbourg) and his funk pastiche Midnite Vultures. The single Dreams  is super up beat and catchy, and I love the contemplative Waking Light from his last album Morning Phase. He has a wide ranging catalogue of music so there will be something to like for most tastes. His duet Let’s Get Lost with Bat For Lashes is good too.

Apparently he along with Paul McCartney and Taylor Hawkins from the Foo Fighters failed to gain entry to Tyga‘s Grammys after party this year. I suppose it was filled with Kardashians though.
