Fat Freddy’s Drop have a new album out and it’s making me incredibly homesick for New Zealand. Fat Freddy’s Drop are a popular act in the Antipodes and there was a time when every kiwi backyard BBQ was playing Wandering Eye from first album Based On A True Story.

Bays is the fourth studio long player from this Wellington based seven piece. You could lazily describe their music as easy listening lounge reggae but that really sells them short. There’s always a mash up of styles and this time around the funk is still working hard and a newfound love for electronica is dialled up. The band built their reputation on live shows and this is where they truly shine. The vocals of Dallas Tamaira are soulful and If you like a wall of horns then you need to put them on your gig list.

Bays gets into to the groove slowly but by the time Razor comes along things have cranked up a notch. Top Tracks :  Fish In The Sea and Razor.
