Daytripper : Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat

If you’re visiting Nice and its surrounds I highly recommend a trip to Villa Ephrussi in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. The villa was built between 1905 and 1912 by Baroness Béatrice de Rothschild and designed by Aaron Messiah. It’s brimming with antiques, paintings, sculptures, a porcelain collection and other objets d’art. Yes it’s incredibly spectacular and noteworthy but if you have kids in tow the gardens created under the direction of Achille Duchêne will no doubt be the hit. Fountains in the main garden proved to be quite popular with an accompanying classical music show every 20 minutes.  Keep on walking and you’ll uncover a variety of gardens – Rose, Exotic, Provençal, Japanese, Stone, Florentine, French, Spanish and Sévres.   The perfect way to stay in the shade in this sticky, hot summer.
