Frock Up Ladies : The Met Gala 2015

Fashion, Pop Culture

The theme for this year’s fashion extravaganza at the Met Gala was China Through The Looking Glass.   It seems that most guests are not game for interpreting a theme and stick to their guns and wear what they usually do to these sorts of events.  The ‘show as much skin as you can’ brigade were out in full force (see below). Yes  that’s Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez. Can’t say I’m a big fan of this look but it obviously has its fans judging by the coverage (in the press that is).

Calvin Klein was the designer of choice for  Kendall Jenner and Lorde.  Both looked sleek and stylish and could certainly teach the more seasoned walkers of the red carpet a thing or two.  I also thought Keri Russell in a feathered, green Altuzarra slit gown was a stand out.

Sienna Miller perhaps looked more matador than anything resembling Chinese couture but she always takes risks and they typically pay off. Here she’s dressed in Thakoon. Julianne Moore is my fashion favourite and turned to Givenchy for the evening and looked stunning as per usual.  Great frock. And if you did want to bare nearly all, Rosie Huntington-Whitely was on the side of good taste in a Versace slit dress, with it’s slightly space age vibe.

For the most over the top headwear style take a look at Karen Elson in Dolce & Gabbana and Sarah Jessica Parker attired in a dress she designed with H&M offset with a custom made Philip Treacy headpiece.

Here are the frocks that got the most coverage but really they’re not my thing at all. This posing with your derriere poking out is of the now, but still it’s a little off-putting.  Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce are key proponents of this look and to me all look a little Vegas gone awry.

I’m not into the nearly naked look either. Even if I were a celebrity and even at my age, if I ever wore a “dress” like those I think you’d see my 85 year old mother chase me down the red carpet and beat me silly. Also, if I stuck my butt out that much I’d have some serious lower back pain by the end of the night. I’m happy to see some of the other ladies in attendance had some nice gowns on.

    • Hi Poodle. I’m wondering what your 85 mother would look like chasing you down! Beyonce’s outfit was truly scary but you know most people have the opposite opinion on this and said she looked amazing. Oh well each to their own …
