Today is the fifth anniversary of Lee Alexander McQueen’s death. At one time known as the enfant terrible of British fashion, he was a provocative and wildly creative fashion genius, who created soaringly beautifully clothes with a dark heart. His fashion house carries on today with Sarah Burton at the helm, while Kate Middleton famously endorsed the brand by selecting it to make her wedding dress.
This year Victoria and Albert Museum in London is hosting a retrospective of his work, entitled Savage Beauty. It runs from the 14th of March until the 2nd of August this year. This exhibition was a roaring success at New York’s Metropolitan Museum in 2011. I have to say that I am pretty keen to see this exhibition, so fingers crossed I can cross the ditch and see it. Apparently ticket sales have already been very robust.
