Flashback Friday : Can’t Believe It’s Been 20 Years : The Chemical Brothers : Exit Planet Dust

Flashback Friday, Music

The passage of time is surely zooming at rocket speed.  Here’s to Flashback Friday and albums that have a  major anniversary this year.

First off the block – The Chemical Brothers and their debut album, Exit Planet Dust.  I was living in Sydney when this came out and it was HUGE.  Everyone had the CD and every party had this booming from the sound system.  The first half of the album is fast paced chunky beats replicating a night out, but eventually it slows down for those back to mine tracks.  I’ve always loved the album cover too, it’s from a 70’s photo shoot.  Plus Beth Orton sang on my favourite track, the downbeat  Alive Alone.

Listening to this album now really takes me back to those times when I was living with friends in a teeny one bedroom flat.  There were three of us.  Exit Planet Dust fits beautifully with that era, when I hear it now it’s like a perfectly formed time capsule.

Did you love this too?

  1. My flashback Friday : Billy Joel/Piano Man/Scenes from an Italian Restaurant.
Something about a piano that’s particularly nostalgic and evocative for me.
