I can’t believe this album is 20 years old. Knowing that old favourites have reached this milestone makes me feel a heightened awareness of the passage of time. The MTV Unplugged in New York album from Nirvana album is my favourite from them. It’s Nirvana at their most gentle, and it still sounds amazing after all these years. The last track Where Did You Sleep Last Night is pure, tortured heartfelt angst emanating from Kurt Cobain‘s every pore. The track is a traditional American folk song dating back to the 1870s also known as ‘In The Pines’ and ‘Black Girl’. Nirvana’s interpretation of the Leadbelly version introduced the song to a new generation.
As an aside, if you watch the above clip for this track, it goes without saying that Dave Grohl looks a lot better these days. Thank god the pony tail has been consigned to the scrap heap.
Wow twenty years…
